Initial Consultation.
An initial consultation, with one of The Grooming Room team, will take place. This will include any health problems, behavioural issues, coat & skin condition, which grooming equipment most suitable, which shampoos & conditioners will suit your dogs skin and coat type. The groomer can advice you on the finishing and styling of your pet best suited to your lifestyle and that of your pet. It is hoped with this method we have the best opportunity of achieving your special requests.
De-matting.
Allergies, scratching and biting and inadequate grooming can result in the coat matting. De-matting is a very time consuming skill. With the right techniques and the correct de-matting tools, The Grooming Room staff can de-matt coats with little discomfort to your dog or cat. It is very rare that the coat has to be clipped short to remove matting. Though this method of a complete shaving is favoured by the more commercial establishments as de-matting is time consuming.
Brush & Bath.
Grooming is a very important part of keeping your pets skin, coat, general health and well-being maintained. The Grooming Room offers a brush and bath service. This includes a rake out of dead/ loose hair, ear clean (and ear hair removal if needed), bath with shampoo and conditioner specific for the coat and skin type of dog, blast dry coat to remove excess water, and loose hair, cabinet dry, and nail trim.
** We are happy to use any shampoos perscribed by your dogs Veterinarian. They must come in the manufacturers bottle, with the Veterinarians recommendations for use attached. **

Hand Stripping.
The Grooming Room specialises in hand stripping. Certain breeds of dog require their coat stripped. Wire, or broken coated breeds should have double coats consisting of coarse wiry top coat (the guard coat) and a soft undercoat. The hand stripping process involves plucking out the coarse guard coat by hand, using finger & thumb. The removal of this top coat allows the new growth to come through keeping the correct colour and texture of the coat. It should also be mentioned that this commonly is a working coat that needs to breathe so without the removal of the dead hair it is possible hot spots and the resulting chewing of the coat and skin can cause topical infection from saliva requiring Veterinary treatment.
Ideally the coat should be stripped on a weekly basis to ensure the coat has the correct coarse texture at all times. This is called ‘rolling’. Rolling means parts of the coat are stripped allowing the coat to grow in layers keeping the correct texture at all times. An alternative method is to strip the entire top coat in one go, leaving nothing but soft undercoat. This method doesn't give the desired result as the coat should have a harsh protective layer at all times, but as it would only need doing 3 or 4 times a year, it is much more practical for most dog owners.
We do not recommend clipping wire, or broken coated breeds. Clipping alters the coats texture, it will become fluffy, and non waterproof & leaves the dead hair in place so encouraging the associated problems of hot spots etc as mentioned above.
